- Up early and visited with Viv at St. Elizabeth's Place, room 109. She finished her cosmetics and I walked her to breakfast. Viv is stronger than most residents here! We sang "I'll Fly Away, ...my mother pray again , & Send the Light." Lorrie Riley Ballinger and Viv and a couple of others made it at least a strong quartet! I love to hear the alto runs! Robert Burns came wheeling in and sang with us! Jim G. must not be feeling well.... Talked a while with Glen Muse. Danced with Lady Lee! She holds my right hand and keeps swing rhythm while I play "Skip to My Lou" and others while holding the harp and getting 'bluesy!
- Skilcare... William Carey, William Griffith & William Oliver Hinds were in the same room and we had a good time playing and talking! Saw Waymon/Eula Mae Perkins , Ila Dean Pipes is in really bad shape! She was sweating off a temp. Elsa Gean, Louise Holt Hancock's ward, is a live wire as usual.
- Craighead Nursing Home... 8am... Saw Gene Brown, J.R Isbell, Leona Ward, Lorene Sharp.. Shirley W. was away for the day...
- Jonesboro Home Care... 8:30... Visited Ed Watson, Paul & Charley in Room 1... Talked with Theodore Smith (89) who is visiting his 2nd wife, a resident here. Saw Marvin, Eugene, the Dacus'
- Stopped and visited with Melvin B. at 1209 Medallion. He and Opal are kind hosts and seem to enjoy my 10/15 minutes. I asked him to write up a few memories of Arlen Vaden which I hope to share with John B. when he flies over from Sweden.
- 8:55am ... Class at SW Church of Christ... Charles Sneed .. teacher of the Book of Jonah.. Yes... John Bartley was also swallowed by a large sperm whale in 1891 and was quite bleached from the day and a half inside the whale's belly! He said he had no trouble breathing but the heat was nearly unbearable!!
- Sat next to Maxine H. and Deniece and behind a Esther and her 91 year young mother. Charles and Mary sat behind and we listened to Jim A. ... I learned that the term "Provision" meant back then " enough to last one day!" It would spoil back then.. so they prayed for that much!
- Took a nap and went to T-town and fed the animules!! Oscar is really growing! My little kids are still about the same size! Mr. Grumpy and Babi seem to be growing wilder! More space often does that with some of my pets...
- Came back and shared some culinary delights! Hot Dogs & Sauce(BQ) and potato salad never tasted better to this mortal.... O.Hinds

Two men die in accidents Saturday
08/24/2008
Two men were killed in separate car accidents in Jefferson and St. Louis counties Saturday.
Robert E. Schmidt, 66, of Pacific, was killed when his vehicle traveled off the north side of Route FF 1,200 feet from Wilderness Road, west of Byrnes Mill in Jefferson County. He fell out of his vehicle when it overturned.
Around 2:20 p.m. Saturday, an Arkansas man was killed in south St. Louis County. Police said the man was driving a Mercury Mariner SUV northbound on Interstate 55 near Reavis Barracks Road when a southbound Ford truck lost the rear wheel on the driver's side. The wheel bounced over the median and hit the SUV.
The driver died at the scene. Police did not release his name. Three passengers in the SUV were transported to a hospital. They were not critically injured.
I-55 was shut down in both directions near the scene Saturday afternoon.

- After Sav-A-Lot and Post office chores, I stopped by cousin, Irene Benson for a bit. Irene is fortunate to have good mental faculties after her stroke and heart attack. She told me that her walking/exercise buddy, Anna Gene Glover has had her cancer return. Just a month ago and those two were leading the pack. Now they must take it very carefully... 'just shows to go ya! Bufe & Beckey brought Mom's sewing machine and the old maple finish stereo over to the Pecan Grove property. I recall mother using the machine to make all of us quilts before she went away.
- George Ford and I tried to get his truck and '88 Escort car to start... my starter battery was too low. Anyway we had to give it up for today. George is 99 years old but still has a sense of humor... back to Plantation Home.
- Louise Noblin Gooch's visitation at Sardis, MS tonight. Derrick and crew spent the night at his mother's for the funeral tomorrow.
- 8-19-8
- George Ford & I got both vehicles going! I like the old '47 Ford Truck. George wants a certain price for both of them. I put the No-Trespassing sign up on his property on Church Street(just north of the church). A fellow named Jerry had boosted the truck battery over night , as I had my starter battery.
- Beck and I attended Louise's funeral and burial at Jonesboro Memorial Park. We were an hour early and talked to Brian Davis and his friend, who put up the tent and will interr the casket and vault. we visited with so many of the Noblin/Gooch/Hinds families. Among them were Billy Jr./Ronnie/ Terry/Don/Ola Grace/Frances Noblin. Betty Noblin Gobbell/Debbie & John/Mike,Jamie/ Amy/ Josh/Jeremy Gooch. - Late start... got to St. Elizabeth's Place at 6:50. My sister, Viv(born 1924), was glad to see me. We sang "When we all get to heaven," "Amazing Grace," "No, not one," & "Shall we gather at the river." Viv sings a great alto. Mrs. Wagster was at her table and Lori Riley Ballinger make up Viv's talented table.
- Skilcare (on Browns Lane)... I showed Ila Dean McCarty Pipes the laminated 8x10s of my parents. She was on medication and was very sleepy. I played and sang for the main dining hall and talked with Eula Mae & Waymon Perkins. At the 2nd dining hall, among others, I met Gertie Mills Skaggs. She is Teman & Lillian Mills daughter. My Aunt Em(Emma) was her grandmother! She recognized my parents from the laminated photos that I had decided to show Ila Dean. Gertie was/is a sister to Nona, Dub & G.W. Mills (Larry Mills' father.... What a small world! Stopped and sang and played for William Griffith as well as Elsie Jean Lee (Louise Holt Hancock Fielder's ward).
- At Craighead Nursing Home, Mark Brown was cleaning up his dad's (Eugene Brown) breathing apparatus and was glad to see me. I visited Leona Ward, Lorene Sharp, J.R. Isbell and Shirley Wallace.
- At Jonesboro Homecare on SW Drive(old Main Street), I visited Ed Watson, Charley & Paul. Newb Williams (from Dixie), the Dacus' and the Altheimer's unit. Larry and Mr. Tipper were there.

Mike Leatherwood taught the book of Joel. Maxine and I always sit together in the auditorium. My sister, I and Deniece ate at Shorty Smalls restaurant.
- Brought Beck a BBQ and fries. Went on down to the Pecan Grove. Sold D.M. a goat, poultry wire, and 4 x2x4s for a few $$$. The goat was springing with kids and she had just weaned a couple of Kids. I am left now with a nanny(Babi), A Billy and three little kids (two nannies and a billy).Wayne dropped by for a moment and helped me lift the caged nanny.
- Home at about 5:45. Spent next two hours reading papers and watching tv. Also, I updated this blog!!! Have a great week!!!! O.Hinds

- Went directly to Sav-A-Lot. Picked up produce. Prepared a pen for Oscar. Fed Winkun,Blinken & Nod along with Babi, Sara & Sir Hornsly. They have really made a difference in the weed patch! Oscar was an easy catch! After a wash down, you could tell what he was!! When I left, he was eating and enjoying his new more sanitary abode.
- Showered and watched Jerry Wayne put a brake line on a 91 Cadillac Seville. I brought bananas over to the Morenos for the kids. We really have potatoes in abundance. I think the rain saved my Pecan Grove potatoes. I checked one plant and it had inch size papas.
- Louise Noblin Gooch passed away this morning at 2:10am. She was my former mother-in-law. I think the funeral will be at Emerson on Tuesday
- May watch a little TV and relax with Beck.

- Beck went to Marion & West Memphis. In Marion, she visited with Staci and Shanna and took her several items and ideas for Shanna's impending wedding(Dec.27) with Drew. She then went over to W. Memphis and is visiting and cooking a huge pot of soup for Jake, Ashley, Amber & Michelle. She is driving the Crown Vic and it never looked better.. thanks to L.M.
- I picked up produce ... gave Doug his $15 and now will have Jeff C. build me something more practical than a picnic table. Wayne brought me a check for materials for his barn repair. I visited with Marrianne; then Derrick, Steve & Mark. The ground and concrfete from the old Sonic and Terry Halfacre's building near the redlight on #69 has been brought over and Derrick is pushing it with his new Kabota that has the front-end loader. He is so happy, because he is really gaining ground that was useless as it was, (formerly a small lake about 200 ft. wide by 600 x 20 ft deep)... The mini-storages(some 43 R&W) now have plenty of land around them! I went out to Plantation Homes and put George Ford (my 99 year old friend) in front of the TV and played a DVD that has Sherman O'Guinn talking about old Trumann. The DVD is playing a slide show of ALL the Graduates of THS since 1929!!! Leona Brock Richards saw her cousins, Effie, Laura & Florence Stephens and her brothers. I called Beck and she was stirring her soup in W. Memphis. I had lunch with Rick, George, Jay and we had catfish! I played a couple of tunes on the harp and left George listening to the DVD on Trumann. I left Brenda in charge of putting the DVD discs up. I had left 7 other disks that had Red Skelton & John Wayne. I came on over to the Pecan Grove and entered this on Blogspot... I rather enjoy this blog.... O.Hinds

Luis Moreno showed me how to clean up a car and leave a great shine!!! He first did my 2004 Pontiac. Sprayed tire cleaner completely about the car .. I was the spray boys, got that off .. then he mopped on the soap solution with a very soft rag. then we sprayed that clean. He sprayed the tires again with cleaner and sprayed them clean. He then chamoied the entire car. He sprayed the tires with a foam spray which dries glisteningly shiny. After we had done my 2004 Pontiac TransAm, he completed Beck's 2000 Crown Vic!! Fantastic finish. He suggested I get some turtle wax and give it a hard glass! He is a geat neighbor!

Well, Coach Billings, was in great spirits! We talked for 30 minutes, then Ray Matthews came in who is with New York Life. Ray and James go RVing together. Ray is sister, Maxine's age. Both would like to see my property up in 'Scotia. Anyhoo, we talked for another half hour or more and exchanged phone numbers. Oh, thanks Paul for bringing up my name to Coach Billings! Beck drove her Crown Vic ahead of me to T-town and eventually J.T. came in my newly acquired '86 Tercel. It was running a bit ragged but I know the pain of proper carb adjustment... it takes time or a new one.... ha!
I wonder if anyone remembers the Smiths from Trumann who moved to Wynne in about 1954. He worked for a utility company, I believe... had initials and a daughter named Rhonda.... oh, well, it would be a long shot if someone remembered but they were dear friends of my friends, Terrell and Wanda Young.
Oh, I dropped Darryl Melton, one of Coach's former ball players his phone number.
Back at T-town, we picked up produce, looked at goats (My three kids are called Winkin, Blinkin & Nod... :)!
Up to the Bay for a rest.... Any who care to visit my website, it is:

8-13-8... After Mayor Paul Nichols showed me (literally) the way to Coach Billings office, he wrote this on his Mayorteacher.blogspot: "WEDNESDAY AUGUST 13, 20082:00 PMYesterday Oliver Hinds stopped by to see me a few minutes. I was busy and could not spend much time with him. He wanted to know how to get to James Billings home. He said that he was in town and wanted to visit with him a few minutes. I told him that James would be at his office and I gave him directions to get to the office.I ran into James this morning. I asked him if Oliver had found him. He said that he had and that they had a three hour visit. I am glad that I was able to assist in getting some old friends together." Again thanks for the kind reception..... Oliver Hinds

O.Hinds on the 8-8-8
I visited Jess and Chris Hinds, (outstanding drummer & my niece & nephew) in North Jonesboro today. I had my first taste of Colloidal Silver. I listened to their info about it and Chris showed me how he made it from watching a demonstration on the Net. Anyway it is full of antibodies and has all kinds of laudable benefits!! He makes it with electrolysis (like we used to change copper pennies to silver ones decades ago). He uses 99.999 % pure silver wire and uses 4 9volt batteries. If I get any comments about the healthful concoction, I will refer them to a website.
I met an interesting person, off 75 highway out of Marked Tree going to Parkin. He is Ricky Teague. He is doing some work for me. I also met Houston Jones (a teacher at Delta Vo-Tech..it has a new name now) and his son. He knew Laura Walton (THS '60)who had just retired from there!!! He has a nice home and attachments on his 20 acres... makes me want to sell off house lots behind Wal-Mart in Trumann and retire to the Country!!
I can tell I am not 46 or 56 but 66 tonight... after picking tomatoes and working aboot the hoose and yard, I had to turn down a musical encounter with the Spoon , Lester and Bradford!! I always have a great time there... but it would carry on till late... I just can't seem to break this habit of going to bed at 9pm and getting up at 5:30am.... Cheers to all.... O.Hinds

O.Hinds on August 7,2008
My tomatoes are looking faded on the north side of our property, but those on the south(rather protected by a tall 8 ft fence seem green enough. It makes me think that the mosquito spray that fogs past may be affecting those plants that are out in the open... Anyhoo I picked some dozen homegrown ones today. It is amazing how they last and last with no refrigeration!
I perused the handy work of a Kabota tractor/frontend loader & bushhog upon the 5/6 acres just east of the Trumann Wal-Mart store. The effect was affected by my youngest son who is a teacher, as well as, a soldier and a mini-storage owner. I named him Joe after my dad and his maternal grandad. He is getting the knack of it! Well, an avocation beckons... good night to all... O.Hinds

August 6
In retrospect, just who was Rickie Hill? He was born in 1948 and passed way on the 3rd of August,2008. I considered him a good friend.
I recall his grandmother, Aunt Dove Henderson Hill ,as part of our Walnut Grove, AR family. her husband Frank Hill was one of dad's (Joe Hinds) friends. Radie, Rickie's father, was born in 1925 and was good friends of my older brothers, George & John Hinds. Radie's brother, Raymond Hill is buried next to John & Shirley Hinds' grave at Harrisburg Memorial Park. Rickie's mother was Eloise McCarty Hill. She was a sister to my father-in-law, Woodrow McCarty, who married my wife's mother, Dorothy Neal Scrape McCarty.
Rickie was buried at Harrisburg Memorial Park and he was escorted there by a great host of friends and kin. His son, John (and wife, Lisa) and their children, Megan and Courtney, continue to live in Wynne, AR where John Hill is on the Police force as a detective.
I am grateful to Wynne mayor, Paul Nichols for introducing me to Blogspot. I met Paul last night at Rickie's visitation. He promised to say "hello" to a former colleague, James Billings. Paul is a former teacher and seems to truly care about his town and employees.
After the very kind treatment of the entire police force and the line of citizens throughout the town who stood respectfully as the processional passed, I can see why my kin love to live there. Wynne, Arkansas, thanks for a very memorial day in honor of our friend and kinsman, Rickie Hill...... O.Hinds
