12/4-19/08 with O.Hinds

The tree that is shading the red car was cut this week. This is a picture of the vacant lot at 216 Speedway, Trumann, AR. Among others the Youngs lived next door back in the 40s and 50s. So many things happened here!

  1. Went over some communication terms with grandson, Stephen. He has his finals for this semester yesterday and today. He is a 10th grader. Mark is a 7th grader and has played football this year.

  2. Sunday the 12th I skipped my visiting in Jonesboro and drove behind Sarah/Landon Hope to Stateline RD C of C and visited with Ira's family. We ate at Logan's Steak House... really good! We went on back to Van/Diana's and had a great time visiting a part of our family that I generally miss. I had called Viv and left a message for Maxine about my plans.

  3. Well, it is Friday, the 19th, before our family Christmas "get-to-gether." Strange how this gets around a bit quicker each year.

  4. Will make my rounds in T-town and then be back early.

Sunday-Monday past reunion-12-1-8

Now brother Terrell is gesturing to Willis, Theresa and Mary Ann. Vivian,Debbie and Beckey are talking and Connie is pecking on her computer. We all(some 70 of us) were at the Sports Complex in Trumann, AR.

Now Marianne Hinds and I went to the first level of this the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Derrick Hinds went on up to the top! It has a great view and one can see the only natural hill where the Sacred Heart Church is built. However this group of O.Hinds and siblings were just superimposed by a niece at the base of said tower. The picture was made on the 11-29-08.

I played the music for this wedding. It was the Wedding March and as far as I know, it was the first time that instrumental music had ever been played in the building at the Pine and Cedar C of C.

I believe this picture has been enlarged more than it can bear... makes me laugh. I think that I was designed to slip over a tea cup and here I am being stretched over a barrel and I think that I feel a rip!!!! Ha!

Well, visited my dear friends when Sister Viv is. Clarence H. held on to my hand and we talked of the old quartets... I started "Life's Evening Sun" and he did the bass along with a few others and I put in some soprano and some alto with some others. He is Jr. Higgins dad. His mind is still very sharp. I visited William G. at Skill care and put bread in his bird feeder. Gertie Mills Skaggs tells me she can show me the house where her grandmother(my Aunt Emma Knight) lived. She said that Joe and Eula often visited there. (had to be previous to Michigan home with Aunt Dove)... Saw Gene B. had nurse clean him up and get that breathing mask over that tracheotomy opening. She thanked me... I am there every Sun morn about 8:00-8:30... saw Ed Watson.. told him I had just talked with JR. Isbell at SC... Many times I am a messenger boy..ha. Saw Stoney Busby's widow at SC and told her "hello" from Lorene Sharp(Orville Sharp's widow)... both Munri Cristy Busby and Lorene Charger Sharp are widows of former Trumann policeman.

New Testament on a page... Check it Out!

I chose Matthew 5:8-11. Here is what the text looked like. "8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

Thanksgiving,2008 with Oliver

Started my day at McDonalds. Alvin B. dropped by and we talked and then Harold P. sat down. Allen, Redden, Red L. and son, Steve Qualls (a former student) were there just briefly. Most everyone is having family over for Thanksgiving. Stayed an hour or so and talked with Gene/wife from Alaska. Saw Billy, Alicia & Preston ..gave them another hat for a third daughter. On to the Grove ... burned the cardboard boxes(quite an accumulation)... then poured water on the smoking aftermath. Fed mis animules y picked up a lot of things for the Beck. Oh, bought that $8 doorbuster bargain at the $ Store. It was a pair of black Wrangler levis (36/30s)... bought peaches (5 cans at 99cents each). Beckey has turkey/dressing/potatoes, rolls & brown gravy ready. Took, Bobby W., a neighbor a plate. Visited with D. Lawrence and Luis Moreno.

Worked on Facebook... changed profile photo to the one of me and the Emu Claws... indeed the emus did taste and look like an overgrown Turkey! Here is the photo: Look to the top.
I rather enjoy writing this blog. Thanks to Paul Nichols of Wynne for telling me about this site.

Christmas letters to friends by O.Hinds

16171 Pecan Grove
Trumann, AR
11-26-8
Dear Lugnani family,
Well, I will try my English now!! Beckey and I want to wish you the finest Christmas ever! God's Blessing on all the Lugnanis and friends that make my visits of 1987 and 1990 so memorable!!!!
We love you..... Beckcy and Oliver Hinds

11-22/26-8 with O.Hinds

1. Worked at the Grove. Visited folks at Rehab South, Trumann. Talked with Bennie B, Juanita/Delvin H., Francis/A.W., Audrea K., (she asked is that Irene B. from out at McCormick?), Judy F, Preston Coy and others. Marilyn L. is working out there and has a titled job now.
2. Sunday... Was at the St.E.Place at 6:15 ... Viv was having high bp., sang a couple of tunes and played for the groups. Beck called and told me of Jared B.'s death via phone. I cut the morning visits to two more homes(S>S& Craighead Nursing Home)after telling Beck that I would have the car to her by the time she was ready. Beckey met me at the door and took the Pontiac to be with Lori B., her best friend up north of Jonestown. I traded for my truck and returned to Jonesboro. Sat next to NR and listened to Bill E. teach class. Sat next to Maxine and told her of Viv's high blood pressure episode. I had called Bufe and told him to get the morning nurses to dispense Viv's bp an hour earlier. The hassle of getting ready for breakfast(make-up & all) seems to aggravate the situation. He promised to call and make the adjustment. Went on down to the grove and worked on the leaf filled yard.
Met several interesting folks in spite of the sad occasion. Opie White(nephew of Maylon White), Mike Glasgo(Faye knows Danny M.) Ferris H. hube me un favor de un disco..gracias hombre. Emerson's is one of the best funeral homes in this area! I know Rick and the trumpeter, Harbison, who has given me a ride in the hearse on more than one occasion back to Jonesboro after my helping with a funeral.
4. Jared's funeral at Emerson's... Burial was at Pine Log... I remember back 57 years before when we buried Grampa Knight's 2nd wife,Mary Lou Biford (Ed Biford's mother)here. Uncle Buford and his family are buried here( I know that Dola and Aunt Francis are buried here. My friend, Bill Couch, lives only a couple hundred yards down the road back to J-town. I have visited his home many times and watched his enclosed deer so many times.Bill is one of the directors of this cemetery. I am glad that Beckey baked that 20-plus pound turkey (with the brown bag recipe)and delivered it via Bobby T.'s car. Everyone was really complimentary .. about it being the very best ever. Beckey and I ate at Western Sizzling (Beckey's treat). Visitation night she treated me to a great dinner at the Mongolian Inn(what great seafood). At Kohl's Beckey and I did the Christmas Shopping.
5. 11-26-8.. After working on the trailer(northern windows) at the grove and a great talk with neighbor B.H., I dropped by KFC for a burrito. There I received a call that perpetuates my belief that there is no cure for greed and ignorance! Why leave a blind lamb to the ravages of a wild pack that now will have no fear of reprimand! Do we get so old that we are deemed insane by age only? I am reconsidering the ombudsman job that was offered to me out of Jonestown for this area!!! The wicked witch of the north may have something yet to consider.

11-18/21-2008 with O.Hinds

Gerry Gwin(our Humana man) came by and explained our plans. PFFS H1804-097
is our plan numbers.. I didn't take any prescribed medicines in 2008 so my bill showed $0 usage. I told him of my purchases of over the counter meds: Omega Fish Oil, Flax seed oil, 81 aspirins and apple cider vinegar. He said that I was doing wel and to continue the free membership at the Trim Gym and the Wellness Center with the Silver Sneaker program. Beckey used a few meds and just enough to justify the program. She has one prescription that is not generic. Gerry showed her how to order the meds free when we order them by mail (at Rite Pharmacy). Humana owns that Pharmacy and the other name brand meds purchased allows them to sell the generic at no cost!
Well, it is just a week until the Hinds Reunion over at the Trumann Sports Complex! I think there are 67 that have signed up to come over and visit! Ferrell, my younger brother sent this address that has all the Bible from Genesis 1-Revelation 22 on one page. Here is the address. I am quite sure you will have to copy and paste this email address: http://www.biblegateway.com/versions/?action=getVersionInfo&vid=31

Well, I am amazed! On the published blog the above email address on the Bible chapters connects!!!
Well, I mowed the front of the Pecan Grove (16171) and Beckey picked up about 2 gallons of pecans. I went and paid my respects to Billy Wiley. I remember when Earlene and he were dating! Bill was about 6 months older than I. M. Spray was to play at his funeral. David T/Judy T are good to allow me to visit according to my schedule....

Just paid $571 on balance of GF account. Now let's get ready for 22degrees f tonight. I will turn on the gas tomorrow at the grove.

So much as gone on this week that I am just about at a loss for expression. I see ol man, George Ford, everyday. He has become quite a good friend these last few months. I watch after him and he seems to appreciate it. Today I am looking for him a pair of spectacle holders. Yesterday(Tuesday) I ate with the Bay Sr. Citizens. I sold Alan H., La Vinda C., Juanita K., and some others nearly all the Watkins that I had left from when I was an agent... I just nearly got my $ back... ha. I worked on getting Oscar in the dry... the goats pretty well have places to hole up under... seems like today... the 12th, that it just can't quit raining. The repair on my roof seems to be holding up fairly well... just a couple of leaks. Beckey has me so that I can finally shift channels on the TV... back into DVD making.... O.Hinds

Former THS cheerleaders reunite in Big AppleThursday, October 30, 2008By RUTH ANN ESTES, Democrat News Staff
Life-long friends(left to right) Linda McCarty Cunningham of Memphis, Donna Holt Pitts of Phoenix, Az., Carolyn McCarty Keller of South Carolina and Laura Weems Walton of Trumann pictured recently in Rockefeller Center in New York. The four women who grew up in Trumann met in New York for a week long vacation. The four were cheerleaders together at Trumann High School 50 years ago and have kept in touch throughout the years.(Photo provided)Keeping up with your childhood friends after graduation is not easy. Four Trumann girls who were friends and cheerleaders together 50 years ago have kept up with each other through the years and recently met in New York City for a week long reunion.
The women, who grew up together and cheered on the Trumann Wildkittens and Trumann Wildcats cheerleading squads together, made plans in 2007 to take a trip together after Laura Weems of Trumann and Linda Cunningham of Memphis retired from their jobs. On Oct. 6, Weems and Cunningham flew from Memphis, Carolyn Keller from her home in South Carolina and Donna Pitts from her home in Phoenix, Az.
After settling into their hotel in Times Square, the ladies began their reunion. "It was exactly like 50 years had just melted away," Donna Holt Pitts said. "We stayed up until midnight every night laughing and talking and then were up by seven and ready to sightsee all over Manhattan."
The ladies saw three Broadway plays, took a bus tour of New York, viewed New York from the top of the Empire State Building, rode the subway, and visited Central Park. "We visited all the New York City sights everyone wants to see," Pitts said. "We also went to Ground Zero, the Statue of Liberty and Wall Street where we talked to a very nervous stockbroker."
Pitts said the group also walked part way over the Brooklyn Bridge and shopped along Park Avenue.
"Because our hotel was in Times Square, we really got to feel the energy that New York is all about."
And no trip to the Big Apple is complete without trying out good restaurants. "We ate some wonderful food and also talked to some of the nicest people," Pitts said.
"Whenever we would ask someone to take our picture, we would tell them we were cheerleaders 50 years ago in a small town in Arkansas," Pitts said. "The people thought that it was wonderful we were together and they were happy to oblige us."
The four friends spent a lot of time together, first as Wildkitten Cheerleaders for two years and then as Trumann Wildcat Cheerleaders. This is the 1957-58 squad. Pictured (left to right) back row, Elaine Conatser, Linda McCarty, Eleanor Ruth Cole, Carolyn McCarty, and Laura Weems; front, Donna Kay Holt and center Jan Meeks.(Photo provided) "We found the people to be very friendly," she said. "But maybe it was because we are very friendly gals from a wonderful small town in Arkansas."
The four "gals" keep in touch by e-mail.
"My husband, Rod, even e-mails Linda's husband, Gerald "Buckshot" Cunningham," Pitts said. "Over the years, Rod has become friends with all of my Trumann friends.
"I feel very fortunate to have grown up in Trumann. And I am thrilled that my husband loves it also."
Pitts left Trumann in her sophomore year in high school when her parents moved to Phoenix. She is the daughter of the late Burness and Mary Holt.
"My brother, Randy, and I were heartbroken!"
In 1972, Burness and Mary moved back to Trumann to live.
"Last summer, my husband and I visited Trumann for the first time since my dad died in 2004," Pitts said. "It was at this time that my three best friends and I planned this trip."
Two of the girls married Trumann High School graduates. Linda McCarty Cunningham married Gerald Cunningham and Carolyn McCarty Keller married Jim Keller. Linda's two sisters and mother all live in Trumann.
Only one of the four women, Laura Walton, still lives in Trumann.
Friendships sometimes fade, but you can bet that these women will continue to keep in touch and spend time remembering the fun of growing up in Trumann. More trips are sure to be scheduled in the future with the girls reminiscing about how fun it was to grow up in a small Arkansas town!

  1. Stopped by and visited with George F. and brought him new (to him)his leather boots. Cathy wants a harmonica but Gina is checking with her brother. He is afraid it might influence her asthma adversely. Worked on Oskar's pen. Fed the goats a couple gallons of rice. Formed out some more of the driveway for the Q.Hut. I am pleased with the rather rough surface of the concrete.... considering what it might have been if I hadn't worked on it! I went over to Charlie Spoon's. Gail and he are moving this December to Wyoming to be near their daughter. Waited over at George's and then went on over to the 5pm ballgame with Green County Tech. I know that Mark's 7th grade team has won 2 lost 1 and they tied tonight 16-16. Derrick/Marianne & Jo Ann were there also. I shared a seat with Robert S. of the Trumann Srs. group. To Bay and I took Jason L. a computer mouse(an old one). Wrestling tonight..... O.Hinds

This tank was one of many going north on the Frisco out of Bay, AR... Thursday morning

  1. Went lifting and swimming at the Wellness Center just next door to Holiday Inn where I am to meet my cousins.

  2. Eunice Jane W. and Lolita Wyatt R. were at the Holiday Inn. They are first cousins who had never met until this trip out to NE AR. Loliata flew in from Seattle, WA and met Jane in St. Louis and they traveled in Jane's car to Jonesboro. Jane had not met her dad, Cecil Wyatt until she was 12. Eunice's mother and Roy Wyatt(brother to Cecil) had been divorced long ago. My father Joe Hinds had sorta taken care of Roy Wyatt and seen that he had a place to stay since he wasn't really able due to a habit. I last recall seeing Roy in an apt at the rear of a church that my dad owned. Of course, my cousin, Louise Waters Wyatt married Homer (brother of the above-mentioned brothers) Wyatt and they lived in Elma, WA near my Aunt Tess(sister to my grandmother, Lona Belle(Lone)Crebb). Her two sisters, Vivian Waters Sergeant and Winniford(Winnie) Waters Walters lived there (but now reside in Seattle in the same residential apartments). We first visited sister, Vivian Hinds Presely at St. Elizabeth Place. Eunice had stayed with Vivian before. Then I drove (Eunice's car) to Turtlecreek Mall and visited with sister, Maxine. We three stopped at Bay Sr. Citizens for a great homecooked meal at Bay, AR. The girls parents were born near Bay, AR. Eunice's grandmother, Louise, was born on the banks of Gum Slough Ditch(she will be 103 this coming May 30). The girls visited a while while I showed a couple a '94 Topaz. Then we toured Trumann, the old school site(my brother Wayne owns that property now), Yellow Dog Hotel where Louise was born (Aunt Tess Crebb and Doc Waters were married there), and the Trumann Museum on Main St. Lolita had several pictures copied of old Trumann.

  3. Wed. ...

  4. Thursday... went lifting and swimming at Trim Gym and Beck took the car to see her sister Linda H. I met a lady whose mother lives in Elma, WA.... small world! I have made about 9 trips there to visit my Aunt Tess and cousins since 1974(I stayed with Aunt Tess that year). My last trip to Elma, WA was in 2006 when cousin Dude(Louise Waters) had her 100th birthday! Anyway this lady was Sissy W. and part of her husband's family was Dave Winters of Trumann, who (along with his wife, Myrtle, ran a store there.. which was just across from Campbell's Drug{where I formerly worked}). I went up to Valley View and watched my 7th grade grandson, Mark play football. They won 22-16! Mark got some tackles and on the last 1 second of the game, Mark was dragging the runner down and one of his own men hit him in the back sending him flying into the runner. Mark was very slow(some 20 seconds) getting up. Anyway Marianne, Stephen and Derrick went on back to T-town to be on hand when Mark's bus arrived. I stayed and watched the Jr's when over VV in overtime. I sat just in front of Paula Tucker/Donald Trentham , Mary Jane, Allison, Whit and Lane R. Had a great time.... Trumann won...a rare thing for the Junior team, I was told.

  5. Friday... Beckey was sick all day.... I went to Trumann and worked on the front of the Quonsett Hut, getting ready for any concrete which may come my way. I am a bit sore from this work along with yesterday's lifting of several sets of 120 pounds and swimming. Sharita B. did not show up to claim her red Topaz .. so I was somewhat disappointed.
  6. Cleaned up in the Grove, burned some limbs that the chain saw crew had left. Vance and Wayne dropped by. Shopped at Price Chopper. To Bay and talked with Jimmy S. and showed him my work. Came home and talked with Luis M. and Jr. L. Worked a bit on this blog... hope it stays up for a while... Thanks, Paul Nicholes, of Wynne for getting me started on this blog.... Barry and Michelle followed me to the Grove. We looked at the goats and pig. Barry and I loaded the two French provincial chairs. .. two cans of paint for Jakeus arelius. Beck left and I went on over to Plantation Homes and spent a couple of hours before class with Steve/Jan... The truck was loaded with the 8 ft. bass boat that I had traded to James R.
  4. 10/13/8... Swimming at the Wellness Center. Met Bill Hassen.. He coached up in Michigan (coached Bill Laskey).. we exchanged phone #s. His wife is in St.Elizabeth as well as my sis, Viv.... Over to Holiday Inn and Eunice Jane and Lolita Rosen spent the day looking up cousins and going over where Roy, Homer, Cecil Wyatt (and their other siblings) lived as children. Of course Homer married our cousin Louise(Dude) Waters and Keith Waters is their only offspring and direct first cousins to our two visiting cousins. Lolita is Cecil's daughter. She didn't meet her dad for the first 12 years of her life. Lolita and Eunice Jane had never met until this trip (Jan flew from Salem, OR to St. Louis) to Trumann. I think that all our trip came together at the museum. Lolita got some copies of the "old" Trumann. I booked the museum for November the 29th for the Hinds reunion... I sold a Mercury '94 for a friend and bought 9 goats for a friend. The girls really enjoyed Phillip W's animal menagerie! Oh, we ate at the Bay Sr. Citizens building. They fit right in and Beckey and already brought over a cabbage/beef dish. We three cousins said goodbye at about 4 or so... Over to Plantation Homes and helped Bro. George to the supper table. .. hope and visited with James R/Cathy and Junior L...... O.Hinds

Sat/Sun-10/4-5/8 with O.Hinds

Beautiful weather in NE AR! The corn is being cut and the proverbial gleaning is in effect for the critters of O.Hinds! What a great meal George F., Rick, Fred, Jay & I had at PH! All the fish we could eat!!! Complimentos to the cook! Today I gathered more of the free maiz and am fattening out Oscar from this point on! After working a bit in the Pecan Grove and stopping by to see Marianne, Mark & Stephan, I entered the grove from the west. Opened a gap on the south and crossed onto my property at 16171 PG Road. I enjoy the freedom of coming and going as I please. I stopped by B.S. and he gave me cincuenta dolares. Ferrell called and Ann Marie were coming back from Paragould and were stopping in to see Maxine and Viv, my sisters in J-town.
I really enjoyed Bay Harvest Festival. Beckey and I had hamburgers and visited the Sr. Center where they were really doing a good business. Met all kinds of cousins and friends!
Sunday.... Sang at SEP with Viv, and the whole group(4 separate dining halls and feeding areas). Tammy Passmore is the nurse from Bay, that enjoys seeing Lady Lee and me playing and keeping time to Redwing.
Had class with Mike L. and listened to Travis Eades preach. Told Maxine that I wasn't eating in Jonesboro today. Mc told me that Maddie(Ferrell's granddaughter was so solid, big and weighed 23 pounds already. Stopped at Dragon City and ordered our favorites (with noodles...shrimp and Mongolian chicken). Beckey went on to West Memphis with our gifts for Shanna's shower. She called and a bad wreck was near Jericho. She is driving my Pontiac.... I will have class in Trumann tonight... O.Hinds

9/28--10/3/8

Visited, played, sang for my groups at St.Elizabeth's Place, Skillcare, Craighead Nursing and Jonesboro Homecare. I told Melvin/Opal B. that a friend, Clarence H. was at S.E.P. Class with Mike L. I generally chat with Mike C., Norman R., Marvin H., Roger, Carl, Buddy, Charley and several others. We were told that a jogger was hit by a car and it turned out to be Billie Stone Turman's daughter, Dee. It is so sad. I threw up my hand to two female joggers on my run out to Craighead N.Home just this morning. I am writing this on the 10-3 and Dee didn't make it.
We are beginning a 40 day of Community...(Purpose Driven series). We met at Jan/Steve R.'s home in T-town. I know the people in the group from our previous group. New comers are Jan's sister, Linda S. I had promised Phillip W. that I would come out to his place near the Bay Ditch. He and Belinda have the cutest female llama(just born).
9/29/8 Had lunch with Bay Seniors..great meal as usual! Spent evening lifting and in the pool .. I lost a couple of pounds... (well that is what the scale said!). This was the first time that I could use the 150 slide and 49&1/2 ...ha! I stopped by and saw Viv at SEP.

9/30/8... Burning Limbs... visted my friends at Plantation Homes..(generally twice a day). Ol man George Ford(born 1909) and I have become re-acquainted.

10/1/8... Visited Irene, my cousin, on Whitlatch. She seems to be improving after that stroke.
Sad to hear that our friend's A.G's cancer has returned. Visited PH and George really liked the Watkin's Red Liniment... He said he really felt better after using it.
I fished a couple of hours at the old Vance N.'s place... caught about 25 bream... let them out at Cucklburr Slough. Picked up a little corn for Oscar...

10/2/8.. Thursday... Stopped by Charlie Spoon's home.. We are planning on making music next Thursday at PH.
10/3/8 ... Gleaned about 100 libras de maiz. Cut up all the limbs in the forks of the Pecan Grove... set them burning... Came home... un poco siesta. y despues concludio un transacion con Richards. 9/25-27/8 with O.Hinds

9/25/8 .... Thursday... Beckey and I watched Mark's 7th grade team lose to Highland(near Hardy) 16-16. Mark was mad at himself for missing a tackle. He blocked a pass which would have been an extra 2 pt. conversion. Derrick is in Dallas for Army maneuvers...

9/26/8 ..... Friday ... I took the '90 Ranger over to Brian's to put on a tire for me. I walked across the street and took a few photos of the Pep Rally. Trumann later won 35-34 over Gosnell!

9/27/8 ..... Saturday ... The Wild Duck Festival out near the Pecan Grove today. Beckey and I enjoyed the music of Kenny/Rhonda Trigg. Margaritaville and California Sun were two of their best(Love Potion # 9 was good as well). Luis and I trouble shot Beckey's Crown Vic. It is an electric short in the #5 fuse link as well as the AC fuse(which also powers the doorlocks/interior dome..
Beckey and I went to visitation for Aldean Gentry Morrison(Edgar's wife). 1. Unloaded load of limbs at the Grove. Beckey came to T-town and we took her 2000 Crown Vic to Brian M.'s station for an oil change. I had the 5 quarts(took six) for her engine(a bit larger than I thought). We ate at the Chinese Pizza Inn on the south end of T-town. $2 tip and &11.88 was the damage...ha! Donna (one of the owners) is working only a couple of days a week. She has one in school. Neil is her husband.. they also are part owners of The Mongolian Grill in Jonesboro. I drove the '91 Nissan today since it was loaded with limbs. I will have a large fire before long to ashify the fallen timber. I brought in a couple of things for Jr... his brother Glen wants to check out a heater I traded for recently. Luis is going to help me get the Ranger's air conditioner going. Oh, I dropped by McDonald's and chatted with Henry S., Lamon Moye, others and Johnny Johnson. Johnny is a sensitive human being.. we need more like him. He is on the County Council. Talked with Jimmy Van L. over at the Duck Festival... Met a Mr. Newson from Harrisburg and a gentleman from Carlisle who were state inspectors for ride safety. Stopped over to Plantation Home and visited George F.... peeled a couple of oranges for him with that new plastic peel cutter! 1. Beckey has a new printer(Lexmark X3430) in tonight. I worked on the huge limb pile at the Grove. Used a chain saw to stack the pyre properly for the fire. That fried pork didn't agree with me... some folks have food that talks back to them..ha! I really like the Red Ranger. I got up and cut up the huge pine that was on the fence between Pauline C. and us. When I returned to Bay, I finished the cutting up of the limbs and pruned the front trees that make up the border between. 103/105 Terra.Visited with George Ford, Junior L., Luis M., Luis likes the ranger as well... Jr. needs to fence planks..... Wrestling.. I was disappointed that HBK/Batista lost to Chris Jericho, JBL and another guffus... O.H

9-22-8 with O.Hinds

  1. Took truck by and Brian M. aired up my spare... no charge. When he gets a new shifter, he will try it to see if it reduces the sound of the transmission from 2to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. Worked at the grove. Carried inumerous limbs, set a fire... mostly leaves burned. Dropped by Beth/Jim's and he 1st/2nd degree burns Sat. after they had let me out. He used gas to start a fire. Beth said she saw a blue blast that blew him into a tree. Anyway he is recuperating. I bought a Jayco Trailer para un ciento/veinte cinco dolares. I worked the rest of the evening glueing new material and waterproofing. I hope to sell it to one of the Duck Festival people. The red Ranger is really doing well!
  2. We received this letter from John Boija from Taby, Sweden today: "Oliver & Becky, just a short note to let you know that your openhearted generosity, splendid hospitality and kindness impressed both me and Carina and we so much enjoyed our stay with you. Trumann is a place that will always have a fond place in our memories and our hearts.I personally enjoyed the visit to such an extent, that I already crave for more so I wouldn't be surprised if we were to meet again in a not too distant future. If you would ever feel like seeing a bit of the 'old world', rest assured that the doors will always remain open for you here and that I'd be happy to return some of your kind gestures. All the best /JohnPlease visit http://www.boija.com" Have a great day... 1. 9/20/8 ... Quite a day! I had left the car on a Friday for Brian M. to fix. He was so busy and today was no different. There must be only one place(perhaps 2) to fix flats! Anyway Brian called and he had taken out the old and put in the different transmission. I paid him cinco veintes y cincuenta con un cheque par su labor. I drove home in the '90Red Ranger and Beck followed in the '04 TransAm. I really felt good when Brian told me the truck was worth at least quinentos dolares! I may keep it and sell the Nissan.
  2. 9/21/8 ... Up early and took the Pontiac to St. Elizabeths. Vivian was already dressed and we walked to her breakfast room where Evelyn and Ms. Wagster were already there. We sang "No not One" and "When we all.... " and I played a couple of tunes on the harp. I met Wanda Martin from Harrisburg. She Knew Daisy Harris and Gertie Mills Skaggs! I also met Fred Gambill, a life-long Jonesborite. ... hugged several... Mildred F., Nellie V., Opal Hogue and played the harp while Lady Lee kept rhythm with my right hand and arm! She was really twisting to the beat in her wheel chair! Tammy, a nurse, says that this exhibition really makes her day! Skillcare... I can just picture you out in your Slicker and Sou' wester hat hunting for Agatesandshells ...just you, your bike and dog! Your mother really was wise to go the way that you should go and you started at age 10 or so in close-up photos! I have always shot close ... I was always to short to stand in the periphery of several taller brothers...ha! I treasure some of your past letters. Have visited your new site and recall some images from the past that you have shared! Yes, Nova Scotia will always be the place that answered my need for 'newness in a world that had grown a bit too familiar! I will continue to visit your site. That first picture(on your site) took a while to load, but worth it... I save the site to favorites... have a great week!!! Oliver

    Sure, Oliver,

Exactly the same man! Staying home, mostly, these days, with Junior holding the reigns.

I caught him on Channel 83, this morning. Same as channel 5, except better quality, if you have a TV you can fake as though it has cable. Don't know what cable channel he is on. He used to be on NBC (8), in these parts, but not lately.

Hope you are having a fine Sunday. We are never too sure what's going on down your way. A little rain here, during the night, but just cloudy, today. Old "Sol," trying to burn his way through, but I doubt he'll make it, this week, heh!

As it happens, the home of my new Domain is in Nova Scotia. Thought you would like to know that. Don't know what city. The only person there, I have talked with is a man named Dirwin, who is one of the key people at "Register.com," where I am registered. I have high hopes for this new domain and website, as I need it for my affiliate programs. A "Port in a Storm," for Photography Enthusiasts, too.

Hope your Pecans and Menagerie have survived the storms!
Glad to hear back, from you, always!
    Have a fine Autumn!
    Jake & Jack
outwrite@verizon.net..... I will save this address since John is the closest thing to a genius on photography and so many other areas of interest!!! I am at home writing on this blog! Talked with Junior, gave books to Anna, Ashley ... Have a great new week, readers!!!! O.Hinds

9/19/8 with O.Hinds

  1. Beckey worked on a dress today. She is quite a seamtress. Oh, she says she answers my phone calls a lot as well..ha(that goes both ways). I had breakfast with George F. Ann E. is a good cook. The medicine procedure has changed and residents have to go to the end of the room to get their medicines from Sara. It is better this way, since Sara can check and see each one take their medicine! George has a great appetite. I fixed him and a few others coffees and took a few of the residents water. I spoke with Etta, Danny, Marie, Maggie, Betty H., Jackie A. Ruby passed away last week and Nolan Raper (who previously lived at P.Homes died over at the old Melody Nursing Home). Some of the folks may remember Nolan as the guy in the electric scooter and the flag that zoomed all over Trumann. He was also Mazine Qualls' brother. I still have his picture next to a skinned bobcat up at Plantation Homes. I dropped by and checked on the '90 Red Ranger. Brian M. called about 7ish and Beckey took me in the TransAm to the Grove to pay him and pick up the truck. He told me that he would get me an improved shifter from his dad and install it. But the truck did well on the return trip to Bay. I may sell the '91 Nissan and keep the '90 Ranger.

Well, church tomorrow and a chance to see many of the nursing home residents who were out at the NEA Fair Thursday. Have a great Sunday tomorrow!! O.Hinds

9/18-19/8 with O.Hinds

9-18-8 .. Bought '90 Ranger from Mary F. It has a bad transmission. James R. and I drove to Paragould and five 20s put a transmission in the back of my '91 Nissan. Dallas G. is a good man to know on parts. Mr. J.W.G. is a very knowledgable old man at 1501 Kings Highway. Home and put trans in the back of the Ranger. Beck and I went to Western Sizzlin' and met Bufe ,Viv and his Becky. We had a fantastic dinner from the buffet. Beckey and I went to the NEA Fair. Met so many folks! It was Senior Day and a lot of my friends from St. Elizabeth, Skillcare, Jonesboro Homecare and Craighead Nursing homes were there. Even Trumann had some attendees. Well, you save the admission of $5. Beck had to pay... ha! She bought her 30 pounds of par-boiled rice for $15 this year. It was 1/2 that last year. I met Ray Kidd, Bill Berry, Leon Trotter, J.R, Ms. Bradbury (Gene's mother) and many others. I played the harp blues style for a few of my friends and neighbors. I bought a couple of tickets for raffles. I pulled the 70 lb pul compound bow. The exhibitor was impressed.. said I must have been lifting weights... (generally just my own..ha). We went to see Mark Hinds(Derrick/Marianne's son & my grandson) play ball. They won the game 12-8! Mark made two unassited tackles and a few assisted ones. I brought a six-ft heavy metal pipe home to help in bringing the '90 Ranger to its reparation point in T-town.
9-19-8 I couldn't sleep... at last I had Beck to take the weights off of Grandmother( the new clock I had traded for...ha). I think I had been awake all night for all the hour and half hour ' dongs! Got up early and prepared the Ranger for the chain/pipe assist to Trumann. I picked up James R. and he steered the R and "braked" for the both of us! Over to Bryan M's. (the gargage owner) without incident. I took James back home and gave him a fin for his effort. He retorted that I needn't give him $ for things like helping since we are friends.. but I insisted. Back to Bryan's and read from the Shady Grove Scrapbook that the Woolbright's have assembled(it belongs to Crissy Whittaker). I returned it later in the day to KFC where C.W. works. Bryan and I got the Ranger to start and he said, definitely that it was the transmission. I went to Campbell Sr. Center and ate dinner. Saw Ronnie, Jewel, Vera, Odell, Ray, Henry, and several others. I worked about the Pecan Grove. I went over to Bryan's and he told me that he would have the truck ready tomorrow. It will be around $150. ..not so bad for a truck that will be worth about $1,400. I think, if if proves out, I may start driving it as my daily truck and sell the Nissan. It has been a great truck! .. visited with Erma/Junior L..
